The Health Benefits for Immigrant Adults (HBIA) program is now open! As a reminder, this is a Medicaid-like program for undocumented immigrants and legal permanent residents who have had that status for less than 5 years. Income eligibility mirrors the ACA Adult program – so those with incomes at or below 138% FPL ($1,563/month) are eligible. The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) estimates at least 11,000 immigrants in Illinois will be eligible for this expansion.
Coverage can begin as soon as an applicant is approved and can be backdated to cover past medical bills to February 1, 2022, if the applicant was eligible. Apply through ABE! Individuals would like like to apply can also call the helpline for assistance.

免费就业培训课程
A GREAT program at Parkland that trains people to go into construction trades. The program is 12 weeks long. Tuition is covered 100% by Parkland. And students receive a $10 per hour stipend while in the program. Anyone of any immigration status is elegible to apply. A few things that are important for people to know about eligibility: 1) the person must have a valid drivers license (a TVDL is accepted); 2) they must be able to read and write in English at a 7th grade level; 3) they must be able to pass a drug test (including a screening for marijuana). See the flyer below for more information along with a slide about how much people can earn in these areas. There are still spots available in the class starting at the end of March!
